Motorola Pioneering 4G Trial in UK

Motorola has pioneered the testing of 4G in UK, the technology that may revolutionize the way we use mobile broadband.

The current version of 3G would be replaced by a connectivity that surpasses its speed by leaps and bounds, ushered by the 4G era. Motorola has been testing the LTE technology, a new endeavour in the UK, though it has been successfully done overseas. The LTE (Long Term Evolution) is a technological breakthrough that provides connectivity at speeds of up to hundreds of gigabytes per second, promising the potential of refashioning the mobile broadband outlook.

The trial touches an important landmark in generating the next standard of mobile broadband, and Motorola has whisked past its competitors in the tough race. Motorola will be leading the race of LTE advancement, which will in turn lower the costs for operators and allow provision of value added personalized services to customers, believes Joe Cozzolino, senior Vice President of Motorola home and networks mobility.

LTE, however still is in the offing and hurdles constrain its release worldwide. One of the key hurdles could be winning over another competitive technology, WiMax. Assuming that LTE gains the edge over WiMax, Motorola may only be able to offer 4G services once the spectrum is auctioned towards the end of the year. Meanwhile, HSPA+ that Vodafone is trialling with 16MB may be the product bringing near future advancement in mobile broadband standards.
