Broadband Internet to Grow; DSL Technology Becomes the Most Favoured
Saturday, July 18th, 2009Research group Futuresource Consulting has forecasted that the world’s dependence on broadband internet would increase progressively for the coming five years. The demand for internet would cross the 500 million figure for the first time by next year.
The details of the forecast reveal that DSL technology would account for 60 percent of the users and the rest of the 40 percent users would opt for cable systems.
Japanese and South Korean internet users enjoy the fastest internet connections with the usual download speed of 30MB while a typical UK download speed hovered around 3.6MB, as discovered by Ofcom. Patrik Pfandler, Senior Market Analyst, observed the norms and commented that the Indian market is expected to grow five times by 2012 to nearly 25 million connections. He hoped India would be the most dynamic market in the coming 4 years, as currently it had the minimum household fixed broadband internet connections of just a little more than 2 percent.
Interestingly, for the coming five years, it is newer markets like Africa and the Middle East that are expected to lead the increase in broadband connections because of expected increased awareness amongst people. The growth is expected to be almost by one third in the coming year.
However, figures of broadband connections in the developed countries would start to stagnate and hence such markets would prove to be saturated and passive over time.
